Shirley Joyce Price

Shirley Joyce Price, 69 of Wilmington passed away March 14, 2008.

Shirley was born in Elizabethtown, NC on January 8, 1939 to the late Garland Edwin Hatcher and Beulah Francis Price Hatcher East. She was the oldest of four children.

Shirley was employed at Carroll’s Drive Inn, The Dixie Pig, Eldercare as a nurse’s aide and for 11 years New Hanover County Schools Food and Nutrition Department. She was a member of the VFW Post 2573 Ladies Auxiliary.

Shirley resided in Wilmington for most of her life. She was the mother of ten children. Her family was very important to her. She was a collector of things she loved such as Elvis memorabilia, cookie jars, Coca Cola memorabilia, salt and pepper shakers, Betty Boop, John Deere and most of all, clocks.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son Douglas Price I, grandson Tony M. Strouth, Anthony (Tony) Murray and her companion of many years, Edward J. Savage.

She is survived by three sisters, Peggy Smith, Joan Burch (Clancy) and Ruby Gilland; one brother in law Alfred (Al) Price, four daughters, Tanya Kerner (Mike), Lisa Baresoff (Dave), Regina Price (Virgil) and Caroline Gueiss (Doug), one son Douglas Price II (Stephanie), 21 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial service will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Gateway Church.
