Memorial Gifts & Donations

Shirley Lynn Lawson, age 81, passed away peacefully April 20th after a long battle with lewy body dementia and Parkinson’s. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Michelle & Jon Carne and their three sons and daughter-in-law Jacob, Ethan, Christian & Caroline. Her son and daughter-in-law Jered Lawson & Nancy Vail and their children Lucas & Rosa. Her sister and brother-in-law Cindy & Donald Erler, as well as her brother Barry Batchko.

Shirley was born December 20, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Morris & Irene Batchko. She married her high school sweetheart Barry Lawson and moved to Los Angeles, California. She loved living on the west coast and enjoyed spending time on the beautiful beaches and hiking in the scenic mountains. Her most favorite spot to hike was Will Rogers State Park.

Shirley was a very hard-working single parent who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, enjoyed reading, caring for her pets (she had many), being outdoors, playing bridge, eating spicy foods, and she made the best scratch made cheesecake ever!

Shirley worked in the medical field for 15 years as an Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician for a prominent neurologist. She later got her real estate license and sold new homes in exclusive southern California neighborhoods. In 2006, she followed her family to Wilmington, NC and worked in retail sales at Belk.

We will be honoring our mom, mother-in-law, sister, grandma Shirley when we can gather with extended family and friends in California. She had specific wishes for her and how we needed to spend time sharing her memories.

Service information will be announced at a later date.
