Sidney Claire Smith, age 65, of Wilmington passed away peacefully in her home on September 24, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Frasier and Mary Claire Smith. Born in Wimington, Sidney remained a lifelong resident for most of her adult life.

Sidney leaves behind friends, neighbors, extended families and her childhood friends of nearly 60 years, Carole Shannon, Allyn Nunalee, and Jeannie Dalton. She also cherished the friendship she shared with former worker, Trish Sewell and husband Frankie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1401 S. College Road 11 am Saturday October 6, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the New Hanover County Humane Society,  405 N. 23rd Street Wilmington, NC 28405, Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr. Wilmington, NC 28401, or a charity of choice.

    It saddens me to see this - Sidney and I were quite close at one time, during middle school and into high school years. We got into mischief and had a lot of fun! I did get to see her once at a high school reunion. She was a wonderful person and will be missed....my condolences to all her friends and family.

    sorry to hear of Sidney's passing. met her when I lived in Wilmington in the 80's and she was always a sweet and happy girl. I remember her little house she bought and how much she like to decorate for Christmas. RIP dear friend Harden

    Sidney Claire Smith, Girl, I have searched for you for years, and just today ran across your obit. I am so sorry to know that you had been sick. The last time I looked you up in the phone book, I was seeing Jack Andrews and I asked him to call you and ask you to meet us for lunch. Apparently you were not interested, as he did not even mention me.. MEN??? ~ Well, he too has passed away. (back in Sept 2010) I remember we met and used to hang out 10th grade, going to the MilJo, PV Country Club, Wrightsville Beach, and the fun trips we had with your parents going to Mullins, SC to visit your aunts - my favorite was Aunt Pat? the one who lived by herself, but your other Aunt lived next door to Bert Neil Anderson who was my sweetheart for awhile. I loved him to death and always thought of him when I heard the song "Fat Boy" by Billy Stewart, as Neil was overweight but he was my sugar bear at that time. Remember the first time we double-dated, Neil and I were in the back seat, and I grabbed a Bible and started reading it to him, rather than worry about him trying to kiss me.. LOL! Oh, and the the trips we made to Myrtle Beach and Little River, SC.. Fun times for sure.. I remember Carole McKeithan and I both spending the night with you (at your parents' house) and we had a blast. Seems like we stayed up all night.... Do you remember us walking over to the Cardinal Lanes and bowling almost all night? That was fun, except I would not shut up and let you sleep.. Sorry about that. ;) Love you and miss you girlie God's blessings for you always
