Sonja Britt Lawrence was born on May 23, 1966 and slipped into eternal life on June 22, 2023.

Born in Milwaukee, WI, she has been a resident of Wilmington, NC for the past 20 years. Sonja, a devoted daughter, was the love of her parents; the late James “C” Lawrence, Jr. and Jean B. Lawrence. She valued education and obtained degrees from Marquette University and Norfolk State University. She continued expanding her knowledge with several certifications and certificates in various disciplines. Sonja loved and appreciated her family and friends. Affectionate towards her Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Sisters, she valued the bonds created by the Sisterhood. She was an enthusiastic “Cheese Head” who loved the Green Bay Packers. She loved all her dogs, past and present. Max, her current loyal, loving Bichon Frise, held a special place in her heart, despite his dislike for anyone except Sonja and her mom.

    Monica Lawrence says:
Until we meet again my sweet, silent cousin ! You are the epitome of strength and endured countless medical procedures and health challenges, but you soared thru each one with such grace. I have so many fond memories of our talks and the celebratory conversations about your medical milestones. For those who believe, you are restored and no longer suffering. I will forever hear your unique laugh and when I do I will see that infectious smile of yours and know it will forever be. Rest well my sweet sister(Soror) and until we meet again. Love, Monica

    Marla Lawrence says:
Cousins are your first and forever friends. As children, we played jump rope, kickball, and tag at our grandparent's home. We had countless sleepovers at each other's house that seemed into the morning. As adults, God saw fit to have us living in Atlanta for a period of time, simultaneously. It was during this time we had many the opportunity to road trip to our ancestral hometown; Lake Providence. Cousin, friend, confidant, thank you for our good times. Rest on in God's loving arms. You are no longer battling nor suffering, but you were gone all too soon. The ups, downs, the sleepovers and double dutch will never be forgotten. I look forward to the day we can recap them together in glory. Rest In Power, Your Cousin Marla
