My sincere condolences to the Helmerson family. I remember and appreciate Steve's dedication and committment to Scouting. He introduced to the LAFB Catholic Community the opportunity to support religious scouting medals and the importance of celebration. That inspiration has now led to a fully supported religious emblem program being sponsored at Regimental Chapel Fort Eustis for all denominations. Our Senior Catholic Chaplain currently sits in the position of the National Leader for Catholic Scouting under the Archdiocese for Military Services. I thank Steve and Ellen for their influence on the importance of this achievement in the lives of our youth. May his legacy live on!

Steve was more than a co-worker. When I was a brand new DAC he would sit me down to educate and mentor me on the dos and don’t s about being a good DAC. We very quickly became friends and I found myself seeking his wisdom and kindness often. He was a friend and kind man to everyone he met, he will leave a void in many hearts. God bless the Helmerson family in their time of sorrow.
