Sterling Ross Johnson, 86, of Wilmington, NC, passed peacefully at home April 5, 2015 after seeing the sunrise Easter morning.
Sterling, also known as “Dr. Diesel” and “Johnnie”, worked as a marine mechanic at Wrightsville Beach for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army, a member of St. Johns Lodge 1 and a lifelong member of Oleander United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir.
Sterling is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Janice Reynolds Johnson; daughters: Ross Johnson Walls and husband Brad; Paula Johnson Paula and husband Henry; Cheryl Johnson; Coley Johnson; and, daughter-in-law Donna Christine Johnson as well as four grandchildren: Kristin Jope (LCDR. Adrian Jope USN); Allison P. Adams (Chris); Katie Walls; and, LCpl. Ryan Johnson USMC. Sterling and Janice also have four great-grandchildren: Jack-Henry, Sterling and Luke Jope and Preston Reynolds Adams.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Oleander United Methodist Church 5810 Oleander Dr., Wilmington, NC.
