Susan was born in New Jersey to Eileen & Stewart Murray. She came early into this world as a preemie, and ever since she kept what we her family knew as “Sue Time”. She was always on her own schedule, and would show up when she was good and ready. She grew up around Wade, NC with her sister, Donna. After graduating from Cape Fear High School, she moved to Raleigh, NC where she made fast friends with many, many people.
Sue was the image of a free spirit if one was to ever walk this earth. In the 1980’s, she decided the ocean was calling, and she did what she wanted to, and what she had to do, so she could hear the waves as often as possible. In Carolina Beach, she was the bartender for the Beach Club and OP Bar for many years where she was just steps away from the sand and sea.
In July of 2000, at the Hiddenite Emerald Mine, Ret. USAF LTC Paul Da San Martino married Sue. The two rock hounds would travel across the southern United States selling handmade jewelry at military installations and craft shows. I’m sure we only know a few of the stories of their adventures, but we know they lived, and loved every minute.
In her most recent years, Sue was a humble caretaker. She opened her home to many members of her family and friends to care for them as they aged. She allowed them to live with dignity, and still have the fun she expected them to have. She cared for so many, Millie, Tyce, Ariel, Mae, Bill, and her beloved Paul.
Sue always said her family was bigger than anyone knew, and she was right. If you were considered a friend, you were family. There are too many to name to say thank you for loving Sue for so many years- We do extend a heartfelt and grateful thank you to her dear friend, Aaron Ballentine for being there with her when she needed you most.
