Susie Freeman Woodle age 74 of Wilmington passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at her home.

She was born in Bolton, NC on April 5, 1946.

Susie was a proud Native American Indian and a member of the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe. She was a long time Wilmington resident and was a member of Sunset Park Baptist Church. She retired from the NC State Port Authority in Wilmington and after her retirement worked at Wilmington Health Associates for several years. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 10 and later Post 545 along side her husband. She served on the State Level of the American Legion as President of the Auxiliary Department of North Carolina from 2001 – 2002, when her husband served as Department Commander.

Susie was loved, admired, and respected by her family, among her co-workers, and her American Legion family. She was a true Hostess at any function, and enjoyed meeting new people, and serving when she could at any function. She never met a stranger and was a great conversationalist, and always telling it how it really was. She will be missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband Milton Horne Woodle; her mother, Mrs. Meredith Patrick Freeman of Bolton; brother, Joseph M. Freeman (Barbara Kay) and sister, Milllie Freeman of Bolton; nephews, Ashley Freeman (Crystal), Michael Freeman (Lahoma); great nephews, Jacob, Kaiden, Sheldon and Colton; sister in laws, Emily Woodle and Lillie McCormick.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rossie M. Freeman, a brother, James N. “Chief” Freeman, and a nephew, Christopher Linwood Freeman.

The family will see friends from 3 – 5 pm Sunday March 28, 2021 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside 2 pm Monday, March 29, 2021 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington, led by Capt. Randy Cash, Chaplain USN RET.

Her pallbearers will be Michael Freeman, Ashley Freeman, Jacob Freeman, Milton Fulcher, Kenny Patrick, Rusty Martin.

Due to Covid-19 masks and social distancing will be required.

    Milton so sorry to hear about Susie, I did not know she was so ill. She will be missed by all. Seems like she was always doing something to help others. Her and Hezzie were close growing up, not just cousins but good friends. She will be remembered by all who knew her. Hezzie and Sue Patrick.
