Memorial Gifts & Donations

Syvone Eason Goodman, affectionately known to many as “Grammy,” passed away Thursday March 22, 2012, one week shy of her 70th birthday.

Mrs. Goodman was born March 30, 1942 in Zebulon, NC to the late James Marion Eason and Fola McGee Eason. She married Edgar Thomas Goodman Jr. September 11, 1965 and had three children, who then gave her eight grandchildren. Family was of upmost importance to Grammy, if she wasn’t spending time with her grandchildren she was telling someone about them.

Mrs. Goodman loved to go camping. From younger days on the hiking and rock climbing trips with her husband and lifelong friends Don and Judy Jackson, to the big family vacations in campgrounds across the country, and finally the peaceful summers she spent with her husband in their camper trailer at Secluded Valley, near Spruce Pines, NC during her golden years. Camping was a way for Grammy to spend time with her loved ones, away from the distractions of everyday life.
Mrs. Goodman graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1960, then moved to Washington D.C. and worked in federal government offices during the Cold War before she met her husband and started a family.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edgar Thomas Goodman Jr., daughter, Marian Syvone Goodman Alexander and husband Wayne of Wilmington, son, Edgar Thomas Goodman III and wife, Erika of Charleston, SC and daughter Mary Catherine Goodman of Wilmington. Grammy also leaves behind grandchildren: Chris, Zack, Joey, Sara, Nikki, Katie, James and Rachel, as well as her younger siblings: brother, James Phillip Eason of Kernersville, NC and sister, Joni Annette Eason Johnston of Arlington, VA.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Sunday, March 25 at 1pm, with a memorial service at 3pm, located at Grammy’s house: 4 Pinewood Circle, Wilmington, NC 28409.

The family has requested donations be made to the Salvation Army in Mrs. Goodman’s honor.
