Thelma Stewart Gates, 89, of Wilmington, NC passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at her home.

Thelma was born in Fort Worth, Texas on October 24, 1929, the daughter of the late Theodore D. and Sallie Mae Fields Stewart. A retired nurse at County USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was and active member of the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, a member of VFW Auxiliary, and spent
her spare time as a volunteer at the Moose Lodge, and the American Legion Post 10.
In addition to her parents, husband Robert Lee Gates preceded her in death, also two daughters, Brenda Danishmand and Beryl Gates and a granddaughter Tara Danishmand.

She leaves behind her sons, Karsavina Gates of Los Angeles, CA and Theopullus Gates of Tucson, AZ; sister, Tempie Green of West Convina, CA; grandchildren, Theopullus Gates II, Kevin Gastelum, Lance McClellan and Treba Donaldson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday November 16, 2018 at Lutheran Church of Reconciliation 7500 Market Street Wilmington, NC. Her cremated remains will be placed in the memorial garden following the service. The Reverend Bill Milholland will officiate the service.

The family will greet friends with a reception following the service.

    I have known this family my entire childhood lovely family. Thelma was a great human she was always so well dressed, soft spoken, hardworking and took care of those around her. Her nurses care went far beyond the hospital. She was lovable, stood for right was always surrounded by love. She opened her heart to strangers and would help as best she could.She will be missed most by those who truly knew her.
