Theodosia Marie Russell

Theodosia Marie (Evans) Russell, 82, of Hampstead, NC passed away peacefully at Stonebridge Memory Care, Hampstead, NC on December 26, 2020.

Dosie was born in Bradshaw, WV to Dewey & Myrtle Evans. She was married to the late Robert E. Russell, December 25, 1955 at Ft. Bragg, NC where Bob was stationed in the Army. They would have celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary Christmas Day. Dosie was a homemaker, living in North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio and settling in Manson, Iowa, raising 3 children. She loved taking her three kids on road trips to visit family on the east coast every summer. They started TR Russell Construction in the 90’s and had a hobby in woodworking, making many rocking horses, wagons, geese, toys and woodcarvings. She loved to travel with Bob for work in Canada & Puerto Rico.

They retired and settled in the Hampstead, NC area. Dosie was a competitive golfer and loved the fact that she was better than Bob. She had a flair for her own fashion and usually had a straw hat or stylish ball cap, which accented her renowned beautiful long gray hair. She loved to drink coffee and was an avid reader of James Patterson’s novels. She was a fixer of all things and always had a way or a part to make home projects easier. She loved to paint. She was an adventurer and loved fossils and never shied away from wild animals, once catching a possum and many snakes scaring the life out of Bob. She loved her grandkids and was a builder of forts from boxes, attended many of their school activities and sports and inspired their creativity. She baked them dozens of chocolate chip cookies and was the best babysitter any of them could ask for. She loved the beach and seashell hunting, spending many summer family vacations at Topsail.

Her last few years she lived at Stonebridge Memory Care and suffered from Alzheimers. We are so thankful and blessed for the extended family of caregivers she had while she was a resident there.

Dosie is survived by her son Bobby (Denise) Russell, daughters Nancy (Craig) Poppen and Suzanne (Tim) Davis. Six grandchildren, Brandon (Amber) Russell, Cade (Nancy) Russell, Sean (Taylor) Poppen, Haylie (Kurt) Steffensmeier, Angela Davis, & Dalten (Michaela) Davis. Eight Great grandchildren, Elijah, Zoey and Noah Russell, Brady and Aniston Poppen and Olivia, Parker and Quinn Steffensmeier, as well as her sister Sue Burkhart and brother Jimmie Evans. She is proceeded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Dewey and Myrtle, sisters, Ginny, Fay and June, and brothers, Darrell, Bob, Ralph and Buddy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association. (alz.org)
