Theresa Mary Malloy

Theresa Mary Malloy, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, March 30, 2019 at the age of 93.

Theresa was born May 17, 1925 in Philadelphia PA., the first daughter of James J. McKenna and Stella Duffy. She is predeceased by her sister Clare Caulfield.

She was married to the love of her life, James Patrick Malloy, on Jan 8, 1949 and they had a wonderful life together until his much too early death Sept 3, 1996. She moved to Kure Beach after his passing as he always wished.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Teresa (Alan) Morrow, Denise (Paul) Hubbard, James Malloy, and Lawrence (Milissa) Malloy; her four grandchildren, Kathleen (Carpenter) and Christine Morrow, Colleen and Sean Malloy; and one great grandchild, Christopher Kai Carpenter as well as a large extended family primarily living in the Philadelphia area.

A devout Catholic, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Wilmington and their Lazarus Group. She also hosted and greatly enjoyed weekly Rosary neighborhood prayer group meetings at her home for many years.

As a teenager, Theresa was a proud member of the Daisy Class (1942) at Hallahan High School in Philadelphia where she excelled in playing the harp. After marriage, she and her growing family resided in Philadelphia, Cheltenham, and Wayne, PA, before settling in Raleigh, NC. Theresa is known to her many friends and family as a generous and vivacious host who enjoyed people and parties of all kinds. Throughout her life, physical exercise and wellbeing were a priority. Until her health precluded it, she was an avid swimmer and walked miles every day. She particularly enjoyed the trails at Fort Fisher and the beautiful NC sunsets.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Rd, Wilmington, NC 28412.

In lieu of flowers memorials made to EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210, in memory of Theresa, would be greatly appreciated.

It has been a high honor to know Theresa for the past several years. I first met her at her daughter Denise's house during one of our family's treasured weekends with Denise and Paul at their Kure Beach home. Theresa greeted my family as if we were old friends, and she embraced us with the same kind of love and affection each and every time we visited! In fact, it was disappointing to us on the rare occasion when we were unable to see Theresa while visiting Denise and Paul. She would pop in after Saturday Vigil Mass and sit for a while with us in the sunroom, ready to share memories and stories and sometimes a glass of champagne (served in a crystal stem, of course!). After my nephew was diagnosed with a terminal illness three years ago, Theresa and her Lazarus prayer group remembered him every week as they prayed the Rosary at her home. This was an amazing comfort to me and to my sister and will always be another treasured gift from Theresa. She truly cared about each of us, always asking with genuine concern about our lives and what we were doing and planning. She is a person whose Special Spirit stays with me. I am better because of her friendship. Her love was unconditional, as she never asked for anything and simply took up where we left off at each visit. Thank you, Denise and Paul and Jim, for taking care of her and giving her the opportunity to enjoy a lovely life at a beautiful place, surrounded by love and protected by angels. And a special thank you to Denise, for giving me the chance to have a friendship with your amazing mother. Her life will be a constant inspiration to make the most of every day.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of Mrs. Malloy. Praying that you are comforted by family and friends. More importantly may you be comforted by the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God, 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4.
