Thomas C. Owens, age 64, of Leland died Monday June 20, 2011 at 8:30 pm.

He was born June 16, 1947 in Whiteville, NC the son of the late Thurman Q. Owens and Flo Reid Owens and brother of the late Thurman (Tim) Q. Owens Jr.
He is survived by his sons Timothy Scott Owens, Matthew Lee Owens, Thomas Webb Owens and wife Katie Owens, William McKeithen Owens and wife Jackie Owens, two step children Sean and Kristen Halcomb, granddaughter Kensington Owens, and beloved companion Evonne Parker.

Growing up in Whiteville he attended Grace Episcopal Church, was very active in Boy Scouts and was President of his Senior class at Whiteville High School. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1970. In 1970 he began his practice of Pharmacy in High Point, NC at Anderson Drug. In 1975 he opened Rx Shoppe in Southport NC, and in 1984 opened another Rx Shoppe in Oak Island, NC. He was a founding member of The Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce serving as its President 1983-1984. He was part of the committee to establish the G.V. Barbee library in Oak Island. He always loved the people of the Southport-Oak Island area. He still missed the people he worked with during his 25 years as a pharmacist in the Southport-Oak Island area. He was later employed by Coastal Drug in Shallotte, NC.

Instead of flowers, donations may be made to St. Phillips Episcopal Church or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

Services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Whiteville at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 23, 2011.

His nephew Tommy Owens will be hosting visitors at his home after the services.
