Wayne Thomas Efird, Jr., 79, passed unexpectedly March 28, 2023 at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born February 14, 1944, in Whiteville, NC, the son of Wayne Thomas Efird, Sr. and Mattie Augusta Strickland Efird.

Wayne attended New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC where he lived his entire life. Wayne retired from General Electric after 37 years of service. He was married to Emily B. Efird, they would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on March, 29, 2023. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman, he loved waterskiing, hunting, and fishing. He also loved working in his yard and took a lot of pride in its appearance.

Wayne is predeceased by his parents Wayne Thomas Efird, Sr. and Mattie Augusta Efird. Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving in addition to his wife, Emily B. Efird, are his daughter, Kimberly King and her husband COL Robert King, son William Timothy Efird, and son Jason Michael Efird and wife Emma Efird. Two sisters, Mildred Lewis, and Linda Blake. He is also survived by his sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

An intimate family service will be held on March 29, 2023 at 3:00 pm. Services provided by Wilmington Funeral and Cremation. A celebration of Wayne’s life will be announced soon. The family asks in lieu of flowers that donation to two charities Wayne loved be made. Those foundations are The Diabetes Foundation of America and St. Jude’s Children’s hospital.
