Thomas Caddell Spivey, age 74 of Wilmington passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at his home.

Tommy was born in Ellerbe, NC on December 12, 1939 to Ross Spivey and Marie Barbee Spivey.

Tommy was the owner and operator of Inman Trucking Company in Leland. He was a US Navy Veteran and a member of Ellerbe Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Saunders Spivey; daughters, Felicia Spivey of Wilmington and Donna Spivey (Nick Weiss) of Montclair, NJ; beloved grandchildren, Phoebe Rose Weiss and Archibald Thomas Weiss; Aunt Mary Helen Capps of Ellerbe; along with numerous cousins of Ellerbe; family friend Patsy Toney; and his special dogs, “Tater” and “Rowdy”.

Memorial service will be 11am Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the gravesite in Ellerbe Cemetery on Millstone Road in Ellerbe, NC.

In lieu of flowers send memorial donations to New Hanover County Humane Society, 2405 N. 23rd Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.

    ONE OF A KIND!!!, loves children and could not wait for his own grandchildren to arrive, my children got to spend the night with Tommy & Kathy, GRANDPA/GRANDMA'S house, what a memory. They were very saddened when I told them that Tommy had passed away. Loves cornbread and cracklings (only cracklings from Clinton), when he handed me my special bag of cracklings and told me how to use it with a smile from ear to ear; not sure if I love cracklings and cornbread… BUT TOMMY, YES. Loves to eat, I will never forget the Thanksgiving meal, attentively scheduled to eat at 2:00, well… 4:00 came and finally the food; HE WAS A TROOPER. THANKFULLY, there was a baby that he laid on his tummy and just enjoyed!!! Loves business, Tommy was a business man, no doubt about it; the record is evidence; we were part of it. The James family will always remember Tommy and Kathy in a very special way. I only wish that more time could have been spent together at the end; too, too, too busy. Much love!
