Memorial Gifts & Donations

Tom Kievit, age 70, of Wilmington, North Carolina, formerly of Clifton, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at his home.

A native of Clifton, New Jersey, Tom attended Clifton High School where he was a prominent member of the football team; upon graduation Tom attended Memphis State University, where he continued to follow his passions for both football and engineering.

Tom was a “self made man” and with the help of his devoted wife, Kyle, started QRP, an aerospace engineering company. QRP became one of the key players for innovative product design in the aerospace industry.

Tom was so many things to so many people.  He was a husband, a father, a friend, a boss and an industry leader; he did all of this with a warm heart and a compassion for others, leading by example daily. Tom would bet on people and truly loved the underdog story. This was Tom’s story, building a company and competing against industry giants all while maintaining a family life and guiding his children to be ambitious in life. He had a deep respect for all those who worked hard and aimed high.

Tom was an avid car enthusiast, a great competitor and an exceptional sportsman. His passion for cars lead him to race in the Sports Car Club of America series from 1970 to 1973, while recently he enjoyed competing in the Porsche Cayman series and was able to share these fun and exciting moments with his son Griffin, loving family and friends.

Tom’s passions for racecar driving, business, pets, travel, engineering and sport resulted in many friends from all walks of life and different parts of the world.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kyle (nee McAllister), Children: Michael, Sara, Drew, Griffin and Kendell. Grandchildren: Brady, Avery, Cal, Lawson, Harper and Bowden. Siblings: Aaron “Ron” Kievit, of New Jersey, Carol Fernandez, of Georgia, and John Kievit of New Jersey and beloved pets Bella Rose and Breezie May.

He was predeceased by his parents Aaron Kievit Jr. and Elizabeth Baumgarten, of New Jersey.

Although I had never met Tom I feel as though I knew him well through my future son-in-law Griffin ! Griffin absolutely worshiped the ground both his parents walked on but when he spoke of Tom it was tho he was speaking of his best friend not just his dad. He respected Tom beyond words and there will be a huge void in the whole families heart without this incredibly loving man My daughter Lauren spoke very highly of this family and is looking forward to being their daughter in law in September. Although Tom will not be there in body his love and spirit will be there with his wife and children but he will have his hand on Griffins shoulder telling him how incredibly proud he is of him and what an amazing husband he will be to Lauren just like Tom was to Kyle. Although there will be a sadness in our hearts there will also be Tom whispering in our ears saying " be strong and continue to make me proud!! You all can do this" To Kyle and the other kids my love and prayers go out to you and may you find peace in your hearts knowing how much Tom loved each and every one of you!!! He would want you to carry on his name and the strength that he embodied and to lean on each other as a whole family. Love each other as if there is no tomorrow and find comfort that he is in the hands of the Lord now and smiling upon each and every one of you
