Tom “Pap” Safranic, Jr. 80, of Wilmington died Tuesday May 25, 2010 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter after he lost his fight with cancer.

Pap was born April 9, 1930 in Youngtown, OH to Clair and Tom Safranic Sr. He was raised in Pulaski, PA and went to school in New Wilmington, PA. After school Pap joined the US Navy where he served in the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Pennsylvania where he went to work for the Sharon Steel Corporation as a laborer. Pap went to school at night, and became an industrial electrician. He retired from Sharon Steel in 1992, then drove over 1 million miles delivering cars for GM. He worked hard all his life.

Pap loved his family and was always there if someone needed his help. Pap loved camping and hunting, and was also a fan of the Steelers and NASCAR.

Pap was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Marcie, his son Lawrence John, his sister Marry and four brothers, Ed, John, Joe, and George.

He is survived by his son Thomas J. Safranic and wife Linda, brothers Anthony and Frank, and sister Marge. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Larance John Safranic Jr., Lisa Beers, Jacquelin Safranic, Tom Safranic III, and Jermie Safranic, and his great grandchildren, Ryon Safranic, Savannah Beers, Aliva Horning, and Elizabeth Haywood.

We will all miss you Pap.
