Ulrich “Mike” von Kampen, 68, of Rocky Point, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Born on August 11, 1944 in Cuxhaven, Germany, he was the son of the late Karl and Gertrud Uthenwoldt von Kampen. Mike loved traveling and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Lois Anderson von Kampen; four daughters, Heidi Speciale (Richard) of Cape Carteret, NC, Debbie Cunningham (Daniel) of St. Augustine, FL, Maria Walden (Jeffrey) of Patchogue, NY, Patricia Whitehair (Michael) of Beckley, WV; a son, Michael von Kampen (David Smith) of Myrtle Beach, SC; two step-daughters, Bonnie McAndrews, Kathleen McAndrews, both of Wilmington; a sister, Karin Strahmann (Henry) of Selden, NY; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be Noon Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation with Rev. Bill Milholland officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church Ministry Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation; 7500 Market Street; Wilmington, NC 28411.
