Vera Mae English of Wilmington, NC, died June 22, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC.

She was born on September 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Milford Lennot and Helen Ida (Watson) Palmer and was preceded in death by her husband Vance Graham English and two brothers, Arthur Palmer, Arnold Palmer and a sister Iva Douglas.

Vera was a member of The First Church of the Nazerene of Wilmington and had been employed with General Electric, Nuclear Division.

Surviving are: a daughter, Fairy G. Hales and husband Keith of Wilmington, NC, a son, Robert L. Garber II of Wilmington, NC, two brothers, Elwood C. Palmer and wife Joyce of Skowhegan, ME and Cyril A. Palmer and wife Frances of Penticton, BC, a sister, Margaret H. Hazelton of Zephyrhills, FL, five grandchildren, Kevin Hales of Cary, NC, Katherine Forsblom and husband Mike of Stockholm, Sweeden, Robert L. Garber III, Megin Knight and husband Jason and Adam Garber, all of North Pole, Alaska, and two great grandchildren, Grace Neskey and Emily Elisabeth Forsblom, and also Robert L. Garber Sr. and wife Martha of Burgaw, NC.

A visitation will be held Monday, June 27, 2011, from 7pm – 8pm with a memorial service and Eucharist at Village Road Funeral and Cremation Service, Leland, NC with the Rev. Mark Opgrand.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Wilmington or Trinity Grove Nursing Home, Wilmington.

The family wishes to express heart felt thanks and gratitude for the kind care given by Spring Arbor Assisted Care, Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Wilmington, the 10th floor staff at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington and especially Jill Finnegan (PA).
