Violet Lavonne Carter, age 67, of Hampstead, died on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on August 15, 1946 to the late Charles Ellsworth and Ruby Lee Burton Carter in New Hanover County.

She thoroughly enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. She loved playing BINGO.

In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Houston Carter, Sr. and a sister, Angela Mae Koontz.

Violet is survived by her son, Edward Houston Carter, Jr. ( Laura E. Thompson); daughters, Delia Lee Carter, Terri Ann Sigman (Joseph Robert Sigman), Terisa Ann Benton, Ruby Lillian Carter, Jackie Ann Carter (Michael A. Whitcomb) and Kathryn Lavonne Humphries (Jeremy Humphries); brothers, Charles Koontz, Raymond Henry Koontz, Milton Lewis and Randy Lewis; eight granddaughters; five grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
