Memorial Gifts & Donations

Virginia Post passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 15, 2023. She was almost 97 years old and had lived a full and healthy life. She was surrounded by family and loved ones throughout her life, and her children were by her side as she passed.

Virginia was born in Wampee, SC, on December 21, 1926, to Otha and Annie Clyde Bellamy. She grew up on a farm during the Great Depression and graduated from Shallotte High School. A year after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Hickman, in 1943. He left for the war after less than a week of marital bliss. WWII separated them for the next year and a half.
After the war, they settled in Hickman’s Crossroads, NC, and raised a family. She was an active member of Andrews Chapel Methodist Church, The Eastern Star, and a Hospice Volunteer.

Virginia remarried in 1984 and moved to Wilmington, NC, with her husband, Richard Post. She and Richard joined Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Post 10.

Virginia and Richard loved to travel and owned several motor homes and a cruising boat. Virginia was always packed and ready for her next adventure. She loved to read and work with her hands. She was an ardent gardener and birdwatcher. She was a talented seamstress with an eye for color and design, making everything from clothes to quilts. An excellent cook, she had plenty of old recipes and family stories ready to pass down to her family. All who knew her will miss her quick wit, sparkling smile, and joy for living.

Virginia was preceded in death by spouses Harold Hickman, Richard Post, and her son Ron Hickman. She is survived by son Dan Hickman and his wife Susan of Wilmington, NC, daughter-in-law Marcia Hickman of Marietta, GA, and daughter Jennifer MacLeod of Myrtle Beach, SC. She has eight grandchildren: Hank Hickman, Claire Clemmons, Russell Hickman, Josh Hickman, Katie Posey, Jesse Hickman, Taylor Arciola, and Nolan Lackey, plus many great-grandchildren. Special people in her life included granddaughter Claire’s husband, Paul Clemmons, and great-grandchildren Caroline Clemmons, Andy Clemmons, and Joseph Hickman.

There will be a Celebration of Virginia’s Life at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, at 1535 S. 41st St, Wilmington, NC on October 26 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Micky Harmon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to Whispering Pines Memorial Cemetery, 1325 Hydrangea Ct., Leland, NC 28451.
