“Jenny” Lewis Mills, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 29th, 2022.
Jenny was born in Leland, NC on January 13th, 1934 to the late Henry Thomas and Margaret Elizabeth Lewis.
Jenny graduated from Leland High School in 1952 where she was voted best all-around and class poet. She continued to share her beautiful poetry throughout her life. After high school, she worked as a secretary at Four County Electric in Burgaw. Jenny married her beloved Scott Mills in 1955 and relocated to Connecticut where they raised four children. In 1987, she relocated with her husband to her hometown of Leland. Once in Leland, Jenny worked at the Wilmington Chapter of the American Red Cross where she was admired in a position well-suited for her loving and compassionate personality. She retired in 2001 to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Gigi.” Jenny was a member of the Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church for many years. An avid reader of the Bible, Jenny loved to share her faith with others. She led many Bible studies and prayer meetings in her welcoming home. She loved to teach her children and grandchildren the Bible and the love that Jesus has for all of us, If you felt loved and cared for by Jenny, she would want you to know that it is Jesus who was loving and caring for you through her.
Jenny was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Scott Tolman Mills, Jr., her brothers Thurston, Edward, Paul, and sisters Alverta, Dorothy, Mildred, Eileen (as infant), Nancy Faye, and LaNell.
Survived by her sisters Wilma St. John and Barbara Sellers, beloved children Karen McGee, Kathy Mills, David (Debbie) Mills, and Daniel (Kim) Mills, grandchildren Cristopher (Crystal) Mills, Rebecca (Brett) Gainey, Cole Mills, Landon Mills, Wesley Mills, and Rachel Mills, and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Benjamin, and Grace Gainey.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January, 14, at Pine Valley Methodist Church (Leland), 497 Olde Waterford Way suite 205, Belville, NC 28451.
