Gifts & Memorial Donations

Virginia “Ginger” Macaluso, of Leland, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2023, just one week shy of her 73rd birthday. After a brief battle with cancer, Ginger was transferred to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare where she was comfortable and could be surrounded by her family and loved ones. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Bob Macaluso, their children Michele Romano of Monroe, New York, Rob Macaluso, and his wife Sarah Macaluso, of Boone, North Carolina, her four grandchildren whom she adored and who equally adored her: James Romano, Gabriella Romano, Edwin Macaluso, and Andrew Macaluso, and, as many of her neighbors knew her, by her beloved dog Gidget.

Ginger was the daughter of Ferdinando and Virginia Tenenni Giusti of Croton-on-Hudson, New York. After graduating from Ossining High School, Ginger dedicated her career to educating and enriching the lives of children, as a teacher’s aide, and eventually as an Administrative Assistant at Mercy College in the Department of Social Work. She and Bob retired to Leland, North Carolina, where she continued to serve with the Communities in Schools of Brunswick County in their before and after school program. Throughout her life Ginger quietly volunteered her time with both church and local organizations. She was a part of the Magnolia Greens Social Committee, and most recently enjoyed the title, “Coach Ginger” coaching bowling with the New Hanover Special Olympics alongside her husband Bob. Ginger was a beloved wife and mother, genuine grandmother, and considerate neighbor and friend. She will be missed by many.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 14.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and asks for donations to be made to them in lieu of flowers.

    Bob Jefson says:
My 11 year old golden retriever, Cooper, asked me to thank you for all the treats you gave him on our nightly walks . He always got excited when he would see Gidget from a block away and would pull me along so he could visit with her. At least that was what I thought was going on but when he met you he ignored Gidget and would promptly lay down in the hopes that you were playing Santa Claus and he would get even a small treat. Ginger, you were a very kind and good person and you will be missed. I am happy to know that you are at peace.
