Memorial Gifts & Donations

Wanda Repass Kinard, 84, born Wanda Lake Repass on January 9, 1938, was taken up into the cradling arms of our Lord on September 24, 2022.

Her soul now residing in heaven, her earthly body will be laid to rest alongside her mother, Mammie and her beloved brother Bundy, and is survived by her dear sister Linda Spencer and her nephew Chuck Spencer both of Arlington, Texas.

A vibrant and loving woman, she leaves behind many friends and family members who mourn her departure yet celebrate the joy and privilege of having known her.

She spent the last of her days living in Wilmington, NC and was tended by her three children, Bobby Nicol, Carol Nicol Donovan and Stephen Nicol.

She leaves behind two grandchildren, Patrick Adam and Lillian Lake, and her most precious great granddaughter Leighton Mae who Patrick and Crystal blessed us with in early April.

Wanda, the daughter of William George Repass and Mamie Agee Repass, was born in Tazewell, Virginia where she spent her formative years in the beauty of the Appalachian region.

As a young adult, she married Charles Ashton Nicol of Radford, Virginia and went on to raise her three children pursuing her professional goals in the Research Triangle Park region of North Carolina.

Her life’s path led her down many roads and she went on to marry her late husband Houston Gary Kinard of Charlotte, North Carolina.

A devoted wife, mother and caregiver, she was also an accomplished business woman.  She attended Steele Creek Presbyterian Church and following retirement, spent her time volunteering at the Carolina Medical Center.

Wanda loved to travel, dance, read, and entertain.  She was an excellent cook and wanted to feed everyone.  She always strived to support other’s dreams in any way possible.

Her desire to be closer to her grandchildren prompted her final move to Wilmington where she attended Pine Valley United Methodist Church.

Services will be at the Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA on Tuesday, September 27 at 11:00 am. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that any donations be in Wanda’s honor to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, Wilmington, NC 28401.

    Peggy Repass Greene says:
To: Wanda’s children Bobby, Carol and Stephen; her sister Linda and nephew Chuck; and other family members: From: Wanda’s first cousin (one of many) Peggy Repass Greene (age 90): Wanda was a very special cousin. I remember some summers that Aunt Mame brought Wanda, Linda and Bundy to visit us for several days on our farm in Burke’s Garden, Virginia. We were so excited to have them, and we played our little hearts out. Uncle George would come to take them home to Tazewell, Virginia, and we were sorry to see them leave. I wish I could be with y’all on Tuesday. I am thankful that my sister Betty Jean, my niece Susan and her husband Gary will be with you in Bluefield, Virginia. God Bless y'all.
