Wellford Price, a resident of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13th.
He is survived by his two loving sons, Jeffrey Stewart Price and his wife, Cheryl Tysinger Price of Topsail Beach, NC, Charles Reid Price of New York City, NY, a devoted and caring friend, Virginia M. Jackle of Naples, FL and three beloved grandchildren Tanner Price, Aubrey Price and Rachel Schmidlin of Wilmington, NC.
Born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC, Wellford was the son of the late Wellford Price, Sr. and Mattie Ruth Price Harris. He graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School and attended Campbell College in Dunn, NC, and earned a degree in Psychology at North Carolina Wesleyn College in Rocky Mount, NC.
At an early age, Wellford developed a sincere appreciation and passion for the musical arts. He loved both classical and contemporary music, and consistently played the piano for six decades. The highlight of his musical pleasures include the sold-out and American broadcast debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City of Van Cliburn playing with the Symphony of the Air that featured a few of Wellford’s favorite composers – Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff.
Over the course of his life, some of Wellford’s most precious memories were spent with his family and dear friends on the coasts of North Carolina. He loved the sea and its’ natural elements of sand, water, and sky that created a sense of joy, a place of solace, and oftentimes, adventure. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and boating.
