William Alfred Moore, Jr. age 72 of Wilmington passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022, at his home.

Bill was born in Wilmington, NC on March 12, 1950, to the late William Alfred Moore, Sr., and Dulith Long Moore.

Bill was a graduate of New Hanover High School and was retired from DuPont  Cape Fear Plant. He was a member of Long Leaf Baptist Church in Wilmington. Bill was a member of Wilmington Lodge # 319 A.F&A.M., where he served as Tyler for many years, he held the honor of being Distinguished Tyler of the 12th Masonic District. He was also an Honorary member of Pythagoras Lodge # 249, Federal Point Lodge # 753, and Orient Lodge # 395. Bill was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on July 2, 1976. “Biscuit” traveled to all of the lodges in the 12th Masonic District as well as many other lodges in our area. He would often serve as Tyler while visiting, and his motto was “Will Tyler for Food”. Bill enjoyed serving and fellowship with his Brother Masons.

Bill was a member of the Wilmington Scottish Rite Bodies and was made a Knight Commander Court of Honor in 2021. He was a member of Sudan Shrine Temple and was a former member of the Arab Choo Choo Shrine Unit. Bill was faithful to serve at the Annual Wilmington Shrine Club Fish Fry for many years.

Bill is survived by his wife of 19 years Brenda Helms Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Patrick Poirier, and son, Adam Moore; one grandson, Raymond Moore; former wife, Wanda Moore; two sisters; two nephews and one niece; many friends, neighbors, and brother Masons, including Hovie Pope, Past Master of Wilmington Lodge,  who was like a brother that he never had.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held 11 am Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Wilmington Scottish Rite Temple with Masonic Funeral Honors accorded by Wilmington Lodge # 319 A.F.&A.M.

Memorial donations may be made to the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

    Bill and I were in a car pool together as we both worked for DuPont and lived only a block apart. Bill was a good, hard working family man, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Prayers and deepest sympathy go out to his family. He will always be remembered and missed by all.
