William Edward “Billy” Burton 75, of Wilmington, died on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Novant/New Hanover Regional Medical Center with his family at his side.

Billy was born on May 28, 1946, in New Hanover County to the late Raymond Floyd and Lucille Virginia Mintz Burton. He was a retired professional Firefighter for the City of Wilmington, retiring in 1986 from injuries received in the line of duty after 13 years of service. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mrs. Sabra Sanders Burton, a brother Clayton “CF” Burton, and a special brother-in-law Norris Flowers. Billy was a well-known flooring installer for many years until his health led him into another direction where he sold produce in the Wilmington area.

Billy was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting at Buckhead Hunting Club in Rocky Point. He loved fishing of any type and was an excellent cook and enjoyed fixing special dishes during the holidays for family and friends. And let’s not forget the Atlanta Braves where he rarely missed a game. “GO BRAVES”

Flowers; brother Mike Burton and wife Karen. Grandchildren Charles, Jennifer, Casey, McKinsley, and Clayton. From the first time I met Billy, 30 years ago, I knew he was one-of-a-kind. He was patient, kind, tolerant, and giving, even though he pretended not to be sometimes. I knew better. He will be missed but never forgotten. Alexis, he loved you with his whole heart for his whole life. ❤ You are in my thoughts and prayers.
