William D. “Bill” O’Steen Sr., of Oak Island passed away at the age of 80 on Friday April 3, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Bill was born in New Bern, North Carolina on February 12, 1935 to Archie and Inez O’Steen.
Bill worked as an industrial electrician for 35 years with several local companies including; Fluor Daniels, GE, Federal Paper, and the Sutton Power Plant.
Bill served his country in the Army and received an honorable medical discharge.
Bill loved to hunt and fish and was a regular on the Oak Island fishing piers. Bill always enjoyed drawing and painting and took several painting classes from the Franklin Square Center in Southport.
Bill celebrated 60 years of marriage to his wife Betty this past December. During their retirement he and Betty enjoyed traveling and visited several places together such as Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and the Bahamas.
Bill is survived by his wife Betty, brother Edward and sister Linda, three sons; Desi and his wife Mary, Steve and his wife Debbie, Keith, daughter Cheryl and her husband Steve and eight grandchildren; Nick, Steven, Christopher, Erika, Isabella, Roman, Jojo (sugar britches) and Riley.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will follow at 11:00 AM, Reverend Rene Pare officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Unity Christ Church of Wilmington , 717 Orchard Ave. Wilmington, NC 28403 or a charity of one’s choice.
