William Edward Walser, Sr.

William “Bill” Edward Walser, Sr., 89, of Wilmington passed away after a short illness on Saturday, July 24th, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare hospice center. Bill was born on November 10, 1931 to the late Edward Franklin and Marie Albright Walser in the “Mill Hill” village of Yadkin, near Spencer, NC.

Bill retired as a Maintenance Mechanic from Corning in 1994 after more than 28 years of service, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded into death by his wife, Judy Eller Walser of Granite Quarry, NC, who passed on November 10, 2019, his youngest child, Richard Christopher Walser in 2013, and his sister, Jean Walser Grubb in 2010. He is survived by his brother Jerry Walser and wife Barbara of Tulsa, OK; children William Edward Walser, Jr. and wife Katherine of Wilmington, Cynthia Walser of Whiteville, and Tamela Walser Christian of Hampstead; and by 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren (including one on the way).

Bill was a loving father and grandfather to all of his children and grandchildren, and a devoted husband to his wife, Judy. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing, shrimping and life on the coast, and his children and grandchildren fondly remember the enjoyment he provided for them, both on the water and off. Bill and Judy joined the Catholic faithful late in life and were members of St. Mary’s Parish in Wilmington.

Family and friends may gather for a viewing at 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation and a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Wilmington. Memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, who’s caring attention ensured a peaceful and comfortable passing for him and his family.
