William P. Blackley


William (Bill) P. Blackley, age 90 of Wilmington passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017.

Bill was born in Hamlet, NC on October 4, 1926 to Enoch Peyton Blackley and Gertrude Purnell Blackley.

Bill was a proud veteran of the US Army 3rd Infantry Division serving during WW II and was retired from the US Coast Guard Reserve. He was a faithful member of Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and on the Church Visitation Committee. He was a former member and Deacon at Pine Valley Baptist Church. Bill was retired from Southern Bell with 33 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and above all he was a Christian loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Bill is survived by his wife, of 57 years Anne Mitchell Blackley; two sons, Frank Blackley and wife Kathy, and Scott Blackley and wife Christi; five grandchildren, Eliza, Aaron, Eleni, Lindsey and Amanda. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Evelyn Garrison, Skeet Blackley, Mary Blackley, Edith O’Donnell, and Jack Blackley.

Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 11 am Monday, July 3 2017 at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church officiated by Pastor Jim Glasgow, Pastor Steve Mattis, Pastor Ron Routen, and Michael Mattis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation for family and friends will be at the Church from 10 to 11 Monday.
