William “Bill” Royal Batson, Jr., age 84 of Wilmington, NC, sadly passed away at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on December 24, 2021.

Bill was born on July 20, 1937 in Wilmington, NC to the late William Royal, Sr. and Margaret Batson.

Bill spent 22 years in the United States Air Force and fought in Vietnam before retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. Following his successful career in the military, Bill worked in sales in Panama City, Florida. In 1986 he and Marilyn moved back to Wilmington where they owned Atlantic Paint at Carolina Beach until he retired.

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years Marilyn Sue, his daughters Tammy D’Lugin-Monroe (Joe) and Tina Marksteiner (Peter), and his grandchildren Alyssa (Morgan), Abigail, C.J. (Taelor), Cole (Kami), Jonathon (Carol), and Sarah (Rick). He is predeceased by his aforementioned parents.

There are no services planned at this time.

Bill will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a private ceremony at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Bill’s family has requested that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in his memory.

    Marilyn, We had so many fun times. All the way from Kansas City. His laugh was infectious and his smile was just an example of his zest for life. Bill had a good full life with you as close to his pocket as he could get you. Love you!
