It is with great sadness we announce the passing of William S. Carr (Bill), 73, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center on Sept. 6, 2023.

He was born to Jim and Dallas Carr in Syracuse N.Y. He graduated from Liverpool High School.

He joined and served proudly for 4 years in the US Marine Corps and is a Vietnam Veteran.

Bill worked as an auto mechanic while pursuing his associate degree in electronic technology. He started working at Corning, in N.Y. during the beginning phase of the optical wave guide/fiber optics division, transferred to Wilmington, N.C. where he helped get the division up and running. He then worked his way up to journeyman electrician during his 35 year career in the Maintenance department where he was well respected and retired with the honor of Maintenance Electrical Master Craftsman.

He was lovingly referred to by many of his closest friends and co-workers as “Wild Bill” for his pranks, hi-jinx and his infectious sense of humor.

He enjoyed boating, water and snow skiing, motorcycles, bowling and NASCAR, and watching his children and grandchildren grow.

He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his mother’s husband, Art Wallace.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Carr, his son, Travis (Valerie) Carr, & children- Austin, Juliana, Briona, Skylar, Travis Jr., Kylee; his daughter, Kaycee (Robert) Watkins, & children- Christian, Lanie, Ethan.

He is also survived by his father James (Jessie)Carr, his mother Dallas Wallace, his brothers, Greg (Bonnie) and Robert Carr, Mother-in-law, Marge Claycomb, Sister-in-law, Lynn Frankland, Brother and Sister-in-law, Mark and Denise Claycomb, special cousins, nieces and nephews across the U.S. He will be dearly missed.

Bill’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 16th, 2023 at 1pm at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation– 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC.

Donations & Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center/Hospice, or American Cancer Research, instead of flowers.

**Kay and the family would like to give a special thank you to our family, extended family and the Wrightsboro Baptist Church family and those around the world who have been prayerfully supporting us with love over the years and all of the caregivers involved in his care during Bill’s most recent illness. Thank you also to the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation for their kind and comforting care during a difficult time. Thank you!!
