William Stanley McKoy, age 82 passed away on June 3rd, 2022, at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center surrounded by his devoted family.
He was born October 1st, 1939 in Wilmington, NC to the late Roxie Elizabeth (Rivenbark) McKoy & Thomas Edward McKoy, Jr. He is preceded in death by his brother, Edgar Ronnell McKoy, nephew Dale McKoy, many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Stan is survived by his wife Janice (Staten) McKoy; his two daughters Amy Colleen McKoy and wife Desirae Regina McKoy; Catherine Lee (McKoy) Taylor and wife Jennifer Cathleen Taylor; former spouse Bessie C. McKoy, sister-in-Law Vicky McKoy, and nephew Ray McKoy.
He grew up in the Maffitt Village neighborhood in Wilmington, NC and then moved locally to his family farm where Stan’s love for farming and raising fresh vegetables became a passion. Stan graduated from New Hanover High School in 1957 and pursued a lifelong career in master wood working, antique furniture refinishing, and custom cabinetry. His wood working talents were shared with many as he easily restored the original beauty of antique furniture for many local families, friends and other clients. Gardening played a large role in his life as it also allowed him another way to share with the community. He often would give his prized produce to friends and many loved ones. It was truly a labor of love. Stan also worked for Southern and Durham Life Insurance companies and earned Top Salesman awards for multiple years.
He served his country in the US Army and Army Reserve. Stan was a long-time member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and later in life he joined the congregation at Wrightsboro United Methodist Church.
Stan committed service to both the Shriners and Mason organizations for 50 years. He was a member of Orient Lodge #395 A.F. & A.M., Sudan Shrine Center in New Bern, a member of the Wilmington Shrine Club (formerlly called the Arab Shrine Club), and a member of Goldenrod Chapter #142 O.E.S. Stan was President of the Arab Shrine Club in 2002.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Wrightsboro United Methodist Church, led by Hospice Chaplin Tim Gore, along with Masonic Memorial Rites and US Flag Honor Guard Presentation. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.
