William T. Mauger

March 12, 1935 - February 9, 2010
William T. Mauger

William Thomas Mauger of Castle Hayne, died quietly in his sleep on February 9, 2010 after a brief illness.

He and his wife were recent transplants from Boston, moving to the sunny south to escape the ice and snow.

Bill was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 12, 1935, and lived most of his life in Allston, Massachusetts.
Bill was a gentle person, a good man, a loyal friend, who had a wonderful smile, loved meeting people and to sing, and had a subtle wit and sense of humor. Strangers were friends he hadn’t yet met. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Bill loved gardening and was a member of the Herter Community Garden in Allston, and grew marvelous “stuff”. He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 669 and K of C #1022. He worked for the City of Boston School Department.
He pursued his interest in gardening upon moving the Castle Hayne, NC by becoming a Master Gardener at the New Hanover County Extension Coop and volunteering with them, particularly in the Carpentry Shop. Bill discovered a talent for painting in recent years and especially enjoyed using the “wet-on-wet” technique. He shared his gifts with his many friends and family.

Bill was the son of the late Joseph Edgar and Mary Agnes Mauger of Allston. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, B. Elaine “Lainie” Mauger, Castle Hayne, N.C., two sons, Wayne of Allston, MA and Barry and Barbara of Watertown, MA., and his brother is Joseph Edgar and Nancy Mauger of Sunderland, MA., and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Private funeral arrangements are being handled by Wilmington Burial and Cremation Service of 1535 41st Street, Wilmington, NC, 28403, 910-791-9099.

A memorial in Bill’s memory will take place from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Boston Hilton/Dedham, 25 Allied Drive, Dedham, Massachusetts.
